Previous Case Studies
- Gender Assessment for a Water and Sanitation Project in Rural Somalia.
This project aimed to improve access to water and sanitation for women and girls in rural Somalia. Ilays Research conducted a gender assessment to understand the challenges that women and girls faced in accessing water and sanitation, and to identify ways to address these challenges. The assessment found that women and girls often had to walk long distances to collect water, and that they were sometimes harassed or attacked while doing so. The project was redesigned to include measures to address these challenges, such as building water points closer to homes and providing women and girls with security escorts.
2) Food Security and Nutrition Assessment for a Project to Increase the Resilience of Pastoral Communities to Climate Change in Somaliland.
This project aimed to increase the resilience of pastoral communities to climate change in Somaliland. Ilays Research conducted a food security and nutrition assessment to understand the challenges that pastoral communities faced in coping with climate change, and to identify ways to increase their resilience. The assessment found that pastoral communities were facing a number of challenges, such as drought, overgrazing, and climate change. The project was redesigned to include measures to address these challenges, such as providing drought-resistant livestock, promoting water conservation, and developing early warning systems for climate shocks.
3) Conflict Analysis for a Project to Promote Peace and Reconciliation in South Central Somalia.
This project aimed to promote peace and reconciliation in South Central Somalia. Ilays Research conducted a conflict analysis to understand the root causes of conflict in the region, and to identify ways to promote peace and reconciliation. The analysis found that conflict in the region was caused by a number of factors, such as clan politics, drought, and poverty. The project was redesigned to include measures to address these factors, such as promoting dialogue between clans, providing drought relief, and supporting economic development.
These are just a few examples of the projects that Ilays Research has conducted in Somalia. We are committed to using our research to make a difference in the lives of people in Somalia, and we are proud to work with our partners to improve the lives of people in the region.
4) A client requested a weekly assessment of the security environment in Somalia. Ilays tracked the top security incidents, provided Somali and English language links, provided analysis on why each incident was important, and interviewed a local in each place the incident took place regarding their thoughts. In this way, our client was able to keep track of new developments and place them in their proper historical and cultural context, while also determining the effect on local security.
